11th International Workshop on Plasma-Facing Materials and Components for Fusion Applications(PFMC-11)

10. -12. 10. 2006, Max-Planck-Institute for Plasma Physics, Greifswald, Germany
Max-Planck-Institute for Plasma Physics (Garching and Greifswald) is organising the “11th International Workshop on Plasma-Facing Materials and Components for Fusion Applications (PFMC-11)”. This workshop is the successor of the former “International Workshop on Carbon Materials for Fusion Applications”.

Venue:  Max-Planck-Institute for Plasma Physics, Greifswald, Germany

Date:     October 10 - 12, 2006

Scope of the Meeting

The 11th International Workshop on Plasma-Facing Materials and Components for Fusion Applications will be held at IPP Greifswald, Germany. This workshop series formerly named as “International Workshop on Carbon Materials for Fusion Applications” was initiated in 1985 by Forschungszentrum Jülich as a forum for information exchange on carbon-based materials for plasma-facing applications in nuclear fusion devices. To date, 10 workshops were organised; 8 of them took place in Jülich, one in Stockholm (1995 organised by KTH and FZJ), and one in Hohenkammer (2000 organised by IPP, Garching and FZJ).
To reflect the requirements of the ITER design and the ongoing evolution in this field, it was decided to change the name of the workshop from “International Workshop on Carbon Materials for Fusion Applications” to “International Workshop on Plasma-Facing Materials and Components for Fusion Applications”.

Topics of the 11th meeting are

recent developments and research results in the following subjects:

    • carbon-based materials
    • beryllium
    • tungsten and tungsten layers
    • mixed materials
    • erosion and redeposition
    • high heat flux component development

Selected international speakers will give overview lectures and also treat detailed aspects of the given topics. Furthermore, contributed papers to the subjects of the workshop are solicited for poster sessions. Ample time will be reserved for discussions.

A short tutorial course is planned for the afternoon of the day preceding the workshop (Monday, Oct. 09). These introductory lectures are dedicated to PhD students, PostDocs, and newcomers in this field.

More detailed information is provided on the workshop homepage which will be updated regularly to present always the latest information.
